Moncton Mall is a 207,000 sq. ft. enclosed community shopping centre anchored by Zeller's and Sobeys. Since the mall had consistently been the dominant shopping centre for north-west Moncton it became a victim of its own success since no real attempt had been made update its design or, more importantly to match its CRU mix with the evolving demographics of its trade area. As a result new shopping centres and new format retailers steadily eroded its market share until most of the enclosed mall was vacant and only the anchors were operating as "free standing" stores.. Eventually Talbot Consultants International Inc. was retained to conduct a market study and redevelopment feasibility analysis. Our recommendation was to de-mall the existing enclosed CRU component and create a Super Convenience Strip Mall. Our recommendations are currently being implemented.
