Eastgate & Centre Malls, Hamilton, Ontario
Opened in 1955 Centre Mall is Hamilton’s oldest regional shopping centre. Over the years little had been done to keep the shopping centre up-to-date with design, tenants or the changing demographics. As other regional and downtown malls (such Eastgate, Limeridge and Jackson Square) entered the Hamilton market, Centre Mall’s trade area became seriously eroded. Talbot Consultants International Inc. was retained to determine if Centre Mall could continue operating at its current size and what design and merchandising changes could be made to make the mall more appealing to the shopper. The analysis also had to determine if the tenant mix at both Centre Mall and Eastgate Mall (due to their close proximity) could be adjusted so they were more complementary than competitive. Our recommendations are currently being implemented.
