Dubai Duty Free H1 sales up 27 per cent

DUBAI — Dubai Duty Free has announced a 27 per cent increase in sales with turnover reaching $411 million for the first six months of the year. Commenting on the sales figures, Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free said: "2007 began fantastically well and we have maintained Impressive sales across all categories. The average number of daily sales transactions has risen to 44,000 with average spend per departing passenger at $45."

Major increases were seen in top performing categories including Gold, which rose by 35 per cent to reach $45 million in the first half of the year. Significant increases were also seen in both the Men and Women's fashion areas, which rose by 79 per cent and 68 per cent respectively and in Handbags and leather goods which increased by 120 per cent. "The renovations that we made to the Fashion Zone in Shaikh Rashid Terminal, which enabled us to redesign this area and introduce some new and extended ranges, is now being translated into sales," added McLoughlin.
